AS … AS with "as + adjective + as"

Elif is as tall as Zeki

"as…as" can combine with adjectives to show that two people, things, etc. are the same
  • Zeki is as tall as Elif.
  • Elif is as tall as Zeki.





  • A worm is as slow as a turtle.
  • A turtle is as slow as a worm.







We can use either as or so after not to compare two people, things, etc.
  • The apple tree is short.

  • The poplar tree is long.
  • The apple tree is not as tall as the poplar tree.
    or
    The apple tree is not so tall as the poplar tree.
  • The polar tree is not as short as the apple tree.
    or
    The polar tree is not so short as the apple tree.


  • This notebook is thin.
  • That encyclopedia is thick.
  • This notebook is not as thick as that encyclopedia.
    or
    This notebook is not so thick as that encyclopedia.
