THE PRESENT PERFECT TENSE with "since" and "for"
I haven’t been to Istanbul for years.
Aşağıdaki diyalogları dikkatle okuyunuz. Present Perfect Tense ile "since" ve "for" kullanımlarına dikkat ediniz.DIALOGUE 1:
(Haydi bu hafta sonu İstanbul’a gidelim.)
Allen : That’s a good idea. I haven’t been there for years. Since 1994 in fact.
(Bu iyi bir fikir. Oraya yıllardır gitmedim. Aslında, 1994’ten beri.)
Arzu : Oh, you’ll find it has changed a lot since then.
(Aaa, orayı o zamandan buyana çok değişmiş bulacaksın.)
Allen : Has it? When were you last there?
(Öyle mi? Sen en son ne zaman oradaydın?)
Arzu : A week ago.
(Bir hafta önce.)
DIALOGUE 2 :
(Elif’i gördün mü? Öğle yemeğinden sonra iş yerine dönmedi.)
Lizz : Yes, I have. I saw her an hour ago.
(Evet gördüm. Onu bir saat önce gördüm.)
Micheal : Where was she?
(Neredeydi?)
Lizz : In the chemist’s. She was getting something for her flu.
(Eczanede. Nezlesi için bir şeyler alıyordu.)
Micheal : Has she got a flu?
(Nezlemi olmuş?)
Lizz : Yes she had it for a week.
(Evet, bir haftadır nezle.)
Present Perfect Tense Türkçe’de doğrudan karşılığı olmayan bir zaman kalıbıdır.
Present Perfect Tense’deki aktiviteler şimdiki zamandan önce veşimdi arasında bir an veya bir zaman aralığını kapsar. Şimdiki zamandan önce, belirsiz bir zamanda yer alan bir aktiviteden bahsederken Present Perfect Tense’i kullanırız. Aktivitenin sonucu aktivitenin kendisinden daha önemlidir. Present Perfect Tense’i aşağıdaki durumlarda kullanırız. Takip ediniz.
- Geçmişte başlayan ve halâ devam etmekte olan işlerden bahsederken;
(Bu ev haftalardır boş.)
- Geçmişte yapılmış olmakla birlikte etkisini hala devam ettiren işlerden bahsederken;
(Ankara’da on yıl yaşadım.)
Somebody has drunk my soup!
(Birisi çorbamı içmiş!)
- Geçmişte belirsiz bir zaman aralığında yapılan işlerden bahsederken:
(Ben o kitabı okudum.)

☞ Unutmayınız ki, Present Perfect Tense’deki cümleler her zaman geçmifl ile geleceği birbirine bağlar.
Şimdi Present Perfect Tense ile kullanılan yaygın zarflardan "for" ve "since" kullanımını inceleyiniz.
- "FOR"
(Adana’da bir kaç ay yaşadım.)
They have worked here for a long time.
(Burada uzun zamandan beri çalışıyorlar.)
Dikkat ettiyseniz "for" dan sonra bir zaman dilimi (örneğin; a long time, ten years,
a few months v.b.) kullanılmıştır.
- "SINCE"
(Onu Mayıs’tan beri görmedim.)
She has been a teacher since 1968.
(1968’den beri öğretmen.)
Yukarıdaki cümlelerde ise "since" den sonra bir zaman noktasının (örneğin; May, 1968, last week v.b.) kullanıldığına dikkat ediniz.
"for" ve "since" kullanım şekillerini aşağıdaki tabloda da inceleyiniz.

They have been in Tekirdağ since 1999. (1999’dan beri Tekirdağ’dalar.)
Today is Monday. The Brown family went on holiday last Monday.
(Bugün Pazartesi. Brown ailesi geçen Pazartesi tatile gittiler.)
They have been on holiday for a week. (Bir haftadır tatildeler.)
They have been on holiday since Monday. (Pazartesi’den beri tatildeler.)
Aslı and Saliha came to Istanbul at the end of 2000.
(Aslı ve Saliha 2000’in sonunda İstanbul’a geldiler.)
They have been in Istanbul for a year. (Bir senedir İstanbul’dalar.)
They have been in Istanbul since 2000. (2000’den beri İstanbul’dalar.)
- Şimdi de aşağıdaki cümlelerdeki "last" kelimesinin kullanımına dikkat ediniz.
(Büyük babamı en son bir sene önce ziyaret etmiştim.)
I haven’t visited my grandfather for a year.
(Büyükbabamı bir senedir ziyaret etmedim.)
I last wrote to her two months ago. (Ona en son iki ay önce yazmıştım.)
I haven’t written to her for two months. (Ona iki aydır yazmadım.)
I last played snowball five years ago.
(En son beş sene önce kar topu oynamıştım.)
I haven’t played snowball for five years.
(Beş senedir kar topu oynamadım.)
It last snowed in December. (En son Aralıkta kar yağmıştı.)
It hasn’t snowed since December. (Aralıktan beri kar yağmadı.)
Zeki last went to the dentist in 1997. (Zeki en son 1997’de diş hekimine gitti.)
Zeki hasn’t gone to the dentist since 1997. (Zeki 1997’den beri diş hekimine gitmedi.)
